As always, but especially as of late, thank you all so much for your kind messages and the tremendous amount of support you've shown for Ron, his pictures, his books, and of course, Smash His Camera. All of us here at Ron Galella, Ltd., Ron and Betty included, have been truly touched by the endless outpouring of compliments and all your messages of inspiration—we're thrilled to know that you are enjoying the projects we've worked so hard on.

If you haven't yet had a chance to see the film, you still have a few days left to watch via HBO on Demand, where it will be made available for your viewing pleasure through July 18. That said, we'd like to take a moment to express our sincerest thanks to Sheila Nevins, Lana Iny, Sara Bernstein, Jihan Robinson, and everyone else at HBO for an amazing premiere experience. We had the time of our lives!

For those who are unable to watch it on TV, or are just into the whole theater-going experience, we're ecstatic to announce that Smash will be beginning its theatrical run on July 30, 2010 at Cinema Village Theater in New York City! So, if you're in the neighborhood that weekend, or are looking for a reason to be, be sure to put Smash His Camera on your list of things to do.

More information regarding theatrical showings of Smash in your area will follow as available. In the meantime, follow us on Twitter and Facebook for up-to-the-minute news on all things RG—including daily posts straight from the Ron Galella, Ltd. archive!

Magnolia Loves Smash
BIG NEWS! Magnolia Pictures has acquired world distribution rights to Smash His Camera! In a press release regarding the deal, Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles had this to say about director Leon, and Ron:

"Leon Gast has made the kind of documentary that we’re always thrilled to see—thoughtful and artfully crafted and at the same time incredibly entertaining. Galella is a character for the ages.”

We here at RGHQ couldn't agree more. Kudos to Leon and the rest of the Smash team!

We're all stoked that HBO has picked up the rights for Smash His Camera here in the US! No news yet on the world broadcast premiere, but keep checking your local listings with the DVR remote close by (or just follow us here, and on Twitter and Facebook for updates). And, if you happen to be in the Columbia, MO area this weekend, be sure to stop off at the 2010 True/False Film Festival to catch a screening—click through for a lineup courtesy of our buddies at indieWIRE.

In other news, there are a couple more great pieces up on the tubes as of late: thestar.com has a very insightful article by Peter Howell discussing what makes Ron tick, and that includes snippets from their recent interview at Gallery Mar in Utah. Also, The Warehouse kicks off their {w}5 segment with another nice RG interview. Check 'em out!

Ladies and gentleman, the votes are in, and we are very pleased to announce that our own Leon Gast has won Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury Award for Directing in the U.S. Documentary category for Smash His Camera!

We here at Ron Galella, Ltd. can't think of a more talented or more deserving individual; from the bottom of our hearts, congratulations Leon! Bravo!

In honor of Leon, please enjoy this series of six clips from the film:

Well, Smash His Camera has packed audiences at both of its screenings, so Sundance has lined up a few additional showings this week. There's one tonight, 1/27, at 11:30pm at the Library Center Theatre, and another on Friday, 1/29, at 3:30pm at the Holiday Village Cinema II—both in Park City. If you have yet to see it, and are still in town for the festival, grab your tickets now at the theaters' box offices.

Today we have another terrific piece about Smash by the venerable Roger Ebert up at the Chicago Sun-Times, as well as posts by The Vancouver Sun, AFP, and the Park Record.

Here we see Ron getting a taste of his own medicine upon his arrival in Park City—journalists Carl Moczydlowsky and Brandon Joseph Baker ambushed him at the baggage claim to shoot  photos and talk a little bit about the film. Click through for the take and Carl's story.

We've also found video of the opening day press conference (via Ustream.tv), at which Robert Redford, one of Ron's favorite subjects and founder of the Sundance Insitute, talks at length about Ron and a run-in they had while Redford was filming Three Days of the Condor in New York (around the 35 minute mark).

In other news, The Daily Beast has posted an interview with Ron about the King of Pop and Ron's newest title, Man in the Mirror: Michael Jackson. Click through for Ron's thoughts on Michael and a slideshow of pictures from the book, which is available now through PowerHouse Books. If you're in Brooklyn tonight, stop by PowerHouse Arena between 7–9pm for the launch party, where Ron will be on hand to sign copies of both Man in the Mirror and Viva l'Italia!
